WHERE IT ALL BEGAN...
"BUILDING TRADITION ONE STROKE AT A TIME"
Uniswim Uplands Swimming Club opened in 2009 in White River, Mpumalanga (aka: The place where the sun rises) and is based at the prestigious Uplands College. The area is known as The Lowveld, or more commonly referred to as "The Slowveld" for its slow-paced lifestyle, less traffic, having more quality time with your family in the most beautiful landscape our Country can offer!
Swimming though, at Uniswim Uplands Swimming Club is by no means slow.
The Club's humble beginning to where we are now is nothing short of many blessings, hard work, dedication, commitment, and passion for swimming from the owner/coach, Samantha Howard (Coach Sam or Teacher Sam) during all the elements that nature could throw her way!
To scorching hot days under the Slowveld sun, torrential downpours, hail, lightning and most days, just glorious stunning sunny weather, Sam shows up!
Sam's passion is to see children swim!!!
Sam has taught many kids throughout the last 12 years that she has been part of the Uniswim family. The club has seen children swim at many events nationally and internationally. Some have gone on to the Commonwealth games, South African Nationals, Level 3, Level 2 and many Level 1 swimmers, Open Water Nationals, many Open Water events and her squad of Club swimmers have competed nationally for their Province, Mpumalanga where they have excelled with many medals and tons of PB's (personal Best times)
Bi-Athlon and Tri-Athlon athletes & swimmers have trained at the Club with some entering International competitions. Masters swimming has grown over the years with more and more people joining every month.
An added benefit and blessing to the Club is when our daughter Chelsi joined the business, taking charge of the LTS (Learn to Swim) pool at Uplands Pre-Prep. With 10 years of coaching behind her, Chelsi has stolen the hearts of the young children and brings a fun element to this group!
More recently we have had Phindile, Isabel and Daiman join the Club. These three coaches are amazing and bring along all the attributes we were looking for in terms of coaches! They have the same passion that we envisaged for the Club...
Commitment, willingness, positive attitude, friendly & bubbly personalities, going the extra mile and overall caring and wanting all the swimmers to just have fun, enjoy swimming and become the best swimmers they can be!
In Rebecca we found a God send in someone who cares for the smaller kids, entertaining and ensuring they have fun, walking them to the pool and back to their classrooms, cheering them on in the water and generally just an angel.
The club has grown from a small group of swimmers to a huge squad/team comprising the following groups: -
Baby classes (Introduction to water safety),
Learn to Swim for children and adults, (never to late to learn)
Stroke correction,
Club & Competitive swimming,
Squad training,
Bi-Athlon and Tri-Athlon,
Masters,
Adults Fitness and rehabilitation,
Open water swimming,
Water-polo,
Nanny & Au-pair water safety classes. (if you have a pool at home your nanny or au-pair should be water safe!) and out latest is
Water Aerobics at Hoёrskool Rob Ferreira.
The Club started swimming at the College's 25 meter heated pool, even with its depth of 2,2 meters Sam taught Learn to Swim classes (Improvising with building PVC islands submerged under the water for the little ones to stand on) The Club eventually obtained the learn to swim pool situated on the same grounds at the Pre-Prep school. This pool is specifically built for learn to swim in a shallow 12 meter heated pool. Here we have children who attend the Pre-Prep and want to swim. The club has a child carer/helper that walks the kids to and fro from their classrooms. We also teach adults to swim in this pool where they eventually will progress to the College pool.
This year (2023) Uniswim Uplands Swimming Club expanded to the local high school in town. There was a request from the children and parents who were schooling at Rob Ferreira High School and could not travel the 4 kilometres to Uplands to start swimming at this school. The Club in conjunction with the school's Management, Principal and SGB agreed that this would benefit the pupils who wanted to swim and to bring a professional Club to the school to improve swimming at school level.
The Uniswim Uplands Club heated the 25 meter pool and swimming will commence on Friday 1st September 2023. This will also benefit the children across the road at White River Primary school. The children have access to the High school via an underground tunnel. The club also offers a transport shuttle service to the surrounding pre-schools in White River.
UNISWIM UPLANDS SWIMMING CLUB strives to teach children and adults alike in a fun and safe environment ensuring that all who swim with this prestige club benefits in all aspects of swimming in White River!
We pride ourselves on teaching top class lessons with no more than 4 "learn to swim children" at a time with one coach.

(A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS)
We are more than just a swimming club. There must be an element of FUN entwined with the serious training and coaching!
To build team spirit and create a bond between all of the kids and parents we go on hikes to some of the most stunning and breathtaking sites we have on our doorstep, we partake in other external social outings such as ten pin bowling, lunch dates, we host an annual year end Christmas party for the learn to swim group at the Water World Water Park in Mbombela and the seniors with parents and siblings go away to Merry Pebbles in Sabie for a camping weekend where we get to chill and relax, play camping games and take some much needed time out to bond.
When you join UNISWIM UPLANDS SWIMMING CLUB you are joining much more than a Club! Here we form relationships, create comrade and we become swimming family!
We shout for each other's kids and offer support to one another when required and that is what makes us great!
See you in the pool soon!
Yours in Swimming,
Sam.
